Anvils eat stacks of things

If you place a stack of things in the first slot of an anvil.  All the items disappear except for one.  Thought the items may reappear in your inventory or on the floor.  So check carefully to see if your items are really gone.

It seems there are other anvil problems. I switched to a more stable build of the server software. Maybe that will fix it. Please let me know if you see any more anvil problems.
